The Monarch Butterfly
|
Come November, millions of beautiful Monarchs will
migrate south-westward from northeastern USA to Mexico. These
fragile, black and orange butterflies wing their way on thermal
currents over mountains, through woods and predators, to arrive like a
gentle lightning, at their winter breeding ground--2,500 miles away!
A greater wonder is that their progeny, three to four
generations later, would retrace the trip north to the very home of
their forebears! It's as if the navigational instinct is written
in the genes. The Monarch is born to migrate!
The creative instinct in Man is just as
remarkable. Works in art and science from Europe's Vienna or
China's Tang, are close cousins to those found in the art of the
catacombs, the peasant humour, underground myths, music and movies, of
individuals living under the most repressive regimes.
Creativity can be dismissed, diverted or
discouraged. But when Man is in creative passion, it too is like
lightning: nothing can stand in its way!
Again, it's in the genes. Man is born to
create! Herein lies the premise for humanity, the promise for
